SERUMS, OILS AND MOISTURISERS WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?
I take my skin care routine pretty seriously. I mean, I ain’t getting any younger, plus its apart of my non-negotiable self care routine. Nothing makes me feel more relaxed after a long day, then massaging a gorgeous hydrating oil all over my face!
I’m often asked what the difference is between an Oil, Serum and a Moisturiser? Whilst they are all different, they each play an important role in your skincare routine, as I explain below!
Serums are fluids with high concentrations of active ingredients. They are usually water based but you can get oil based serums. They are small in molecules and can penetrate the skin on a much deeper level. They are also higher in active ingredients, making them very effective. Think of them as your daily vitamin for the skin. There are all different types of serums to target different areas of concern. If ageing gracefully is something your keen on, I would highly recommend investing in a good serum!
HOW to use – Apply your serum first point of contact after you cleanse. Let it absorb for a few minutes and then apply your moisturiser over the top.

Oils are your hydrating powerhouse. They promote hydration, suppleness and nutrition to the skin. Oils are beneficial for all skin types and although they can sometimes scare people with oily skin, they are usually exactly that that skin type needs. You see, a lack of hydration in oily skin types actually causes your skin to over compensate, therefore producing more of its own natural oil.
HOW – I personally like to use my serum in the morning and my oil at night. This helps to plump and hydrate my skin while I sleep.

Moisturisers are the defensive shield that protect the outer layers and surface of the skin. They seal the serums and oils into the skin ensuring it stays hydrated and balanced. Moisturisers are naturally bigger in molecules, meaning they wont penetrate as far into the skin but are still an important part of your regime.
HOW – Use AM and PM over your serum.
